The retail sector is Quebec's largest employer. Therefore, it is crucial to hire qualified personnel. Without new workers, the torch cannot be passed to the next generation! That is why the CQCD is working diligently to remedy the labour shortage in the sector. For example, it has created a Student Convention specifically for students in the DEC program in Business Management.

The Student Convention is an extraordinary opportunity for students in the Business Management DEC program. Through lectures and discussions with retailers, they learn about the diversity of positions available within the sector, the different types of compensation, etc. The students also have the opportunity to be interviewed for positions or internships with the participating retailers. This is a unique chance to confirm their career and study choices, and even to find an interesting job!

In addition to organizing its Student Convention, the CQCD works with educational institutions to develop programs designed to train the new generation of retail workers. This is a long-term strategy: by training future players for the sector, these initiatives contribute to easing the effects of the labour shortage.
