Opening Hours
The Act respecting hours and days of admission to commercial establishments is intended to maintain a balance between the rights, interests and needs of retailers, their employees and consumers. It determines when commercial establishments in Quebec may be open to the public. Grocery stores and pharmacies are among the establishments that may be open for longer periods, provided that a limited number of persons attend to their operation. Establishments located in tourist areas may also be open to the public outside normal opening hours and days.
The CQCD works to ensure that the balance intended under the law is preserved. Retailers throughout Quebec are faced with very different circumstances, depending on the size of their business and the sector and region in which they operate. As the mediator between retailers and the government, the CQCD intervenes to ensure that all commercial establishments are treated fairly.
