Rolland Tanguay

Avril Supermarché Santé

Rolland began his studies in general engineering at the University of Sherbrooke in the early 1970s. After an internship, Rolland realized that he needed more hands-on experience and decided to join his father’s company, which specialized in the construction of gas stations. After ten years, he bought his father’s company. Propelled by Rolland’s entrepreneurial spirit, the company’s sales and number of employees increased considerably.

In the 90’s, he became aware of the importance of nutrition and a healthy lifestyle and started a course in naturopathy. It was then that he discovered a natural products business to sell. After consulting with his wife, Sylvie, they decided to buy it in 1995. After 2 years, Rolland sold his business under construction to dedicate himself completely to the store run by Sylvie.

Once again, Rolland put his entrepreneurial spirit to good use. His interest in natural and organic products became a real passion. He made it the foundation of his vision to bring as many Quebecers as possible closer to a healthy lifestyle. In 26 years, the company has grown from a 1,000 square foot store with only one employee to 11 branches across Quebec with a total of nearly 300,000 square feet and over 1,000 employees. Over the years, Rolland has surrounded himself with the right people, innovated and ensured the right structure to support the expansion. Among other things, under his leadership, a 120,000 square foot logistics and distribution center was built in the Granby industrial park in 2018 and the Avril house brand has continued to grow.

While he sometimes has to sit at his desk to make decisions that will ensure the company’s growth and longevity and to discuss the many plans for new branches, Rolland is still energized by the field work. It is not uncommon to see him on a construction site, with his boots and hat on, scrutinizing the smallest details.
